Trip Around the Blogosphere – March 1, 2009

Despite the huge launch of Ewen Chia’s first print book, Internet Millionaires, there was still plenty of great online content for those of you unwilling to fork over $13. I love Ewen Chia, but I haven’t read the book so I can’t honestly vouch for it yet. I did order it, though, so expect a review sometime soon. Now, on to the blogs…

  •   - Though I highly recommend that you learn CSS and design basics if you are going to use WordPress, if you absolutely refuse to, Yvo Schaap has created an excellent and extremely easy to use WordPress Theme Generator. Even for those of you who do your own customizing, this generator can be an easy way to check out color combos and layout basics.
  •   - While this post is not new and not about internet marketing, I believe it definitely applies to those of us who work from home. Working online is a seriously sedentary career so we all need to make the effort to get up and move on our own. Healthy body, healthy mind, right? Well, I recently bought the Nike+ iPod sports kit, but I don’t have Nikes. I don’t want them either. And I just couldn’t bring myself to pay for a special pouch to connect the sensor to my shoes. Thank goodness for Podophile’s Nike+ iPod Sport Kit Shoe Mod. Instead of $100 for new Nikes, I spent $1.00 on some velcro and tried out this mod. It works great! If you like gadgets and you like running (or need to get in shape) I definitely recommend picking up the Nike+ kit. I love seeing all sorts of stats on my runs and listening to the special running playlists you can download from iTunes. Anyway, if you have an iPod you ought to check out Podophile, it’s a very cool blog.
  •   - I am a firm believer that in order to succeed you must have the right mindset. Yaro Starak posted an excellent article this week calledHow to Master the Inner Game of Business and Life. In it, he explains the need for persistence and hard work and expresses his sympathy for those newbies trying to find the “quick fix” and make millions overnight.
  •   - Continuing with the theme of actually having to work (oh the horror!) to build an internet business, John Reese shares The Easiest Way to Make Money Online. And guess what, it’s an easy fix, but it will take work. In fact, John suggest a complete audit of your entire virtual real estate portfolio.
  •   - In Messing with a Good Thing: Good SEO Requires Constant Addition, SEM Scoop discusses the drawback of resting on your laurels when it comes to search engine placement. This is a great reminder to stay on your toes and keep your website updated.
  •   - Chris Crum from Web Pro News posted an article on the not-so-new subject of whether or not social media is a waste of time. However, this article is worth reading because Chris points out that with a time management strategy you can get your social media time in without getting too sucked in. The article is called Losing Focus May Be Costing you Money and it includes a video of Abby Johnson interviewing David Wallace (of SearchRanks).
  •   - For a killer discussion on Google’s love of brands, start with Aaron Wall’s article New Search Engine Rankings Place Heavy Emphasis on Branding. Then, after you’ve read that, read the follow-up interview with Chris Crum: Is Brand the Key to Ranking on Google?. We all know that strong branding is important in terms of customer relationships, but now it seems that it can also improve your search ranking. The background in Aaron’s article is also excellent for those of you who may not be aware of Google’s important evolutionary moments.

That should definitely keep you busy and get your wheels spinning. I really learned a lot this week, but I think the most important thing was that I was reminded of some of the basic elements necessary to succeed online. Persistence, hard work, strong SEO, etc. Sometimes with all that’s going on it’s easy to forget the stuff that makes that most impact.

Wealthy Affiliate’s Tips To Help Your To Higher Adsense Earnings

In this article I give advice about ways in which you can increase the amount you earn from Google adsense. I run adsense on a number of my sites and it is proving to be a very good form of second income. Many other people are now putting the code onto their own sites which can help them to pay for hosting and domain renewal costs.

Should you run adsense on your website?

In my opinion there are many positive reasons to have these google ads on your website but there are also reasons why you may not want them on there. On the positive side you are of course likely to earn money when people click on one of the ads, this can be a useful income, however unless you have either a high traffic site or a large number of sites, you are unlikely to get rich from it.

On the negative side when people click on one of the ads it is actually taking away that visitor from your site. If you are offering a service it therefore probably is not worth signing up for adsense for that site. If the site is purely for information purposes I would say that it is worth adding the code.

How to increase your adsense earnings

There are many ways in which you can blend the adverts into your website by choosing a particular colour for the ads as an example. Placement of the ads is also quite important and there is information on the Google site which advises where to put the adverts for maximum impact.

I believe the best way to increase your earnings however is to get more traffic to the website. There are many ways of doing this:

Google adwords

You can create an advertising campaign using google adwords. You could opt to pay near enough the minimum fee per click and this will keep the costs down. People will then visit your site and hopefully click on one of the other ads, therefore making you money.

This can work very well for certain subjects, but not so well for others. It is a matter of trial and error, I always run the adwords for around a month and then evaluate if it is worth carrying on after that point.

It is obviously important that we do not spend more on our own advertising, than we are likely to earn.

Purchase a text link ad

This is becoming more and more popular as one way backward links are becoming ever more powerful in the eyes of the search engines. These type of links are however quite hard to come by.

By purchasing a text link advert you are likely to have an increase in web traffic from two avenues. Firstly from the advert itself and also from the page rank value of the backward link.

At articles-submission.com you are able to purchase nine of these permanent backward links for only £50, which includes a link on a page rank five page.

Writing articles

Writing articles can also help you to obtain more visitors to your site. The people who read the article are potential visitors, you also obtain a one way backward link from the article directory which you submit the article to, and other webmasters may also include the article on their own site, thus creating another one way backward link. These backward links help to increase your overall page rank. The higher the page rank, the more traffic you should receive.

Link exchange

Exchanging links with other websites which are hopefully in the same business sector as your own, also has value. These links are not as powerful as the one way links mentioned above but are still worth seeking.

You can e-mail or phone other webmasters to ask if they would be happy to swap links with your site.

Build a site network

If you have the time and available funds you could also consider building a network of sites, all on the same theme. Each of the sites in the network would have a link pointing to the main site. They could also have adsense on the sites thus increasing your earnings in a two-fold manner.

I hope this article helps you in your quest to increase your adsense earnings.

If you have the will to learn and earn, the perseverance and the capability to follow directions. If you are a beginner, you can expect to find a business that will train you.

How Offline Businesses Are Finding Out The Benefits Of Web Marketing

More and more offline businesses, both small and large, are discovering the advantages of online marketing. When push comes to shove, your business needs to survive right? In this difficult economy business owners MUST take advantage of every opportunity afforded to them in order to keep their doors open. Learn how internet marketing is helping offline businesses survive and even thrive regardless of the economy.

Internet marketing, also referred to as web marketing, online marketing or eMarketing is the marketing of products or services over the internet. There are 3 specific areas that explain why internet marketing is fast becoming a necessary skill to entrepreneurs everywhere.

1. Return on Investment – ROI is absolutely necessary for businesses to remain profitable. For instance, when people advertise in traditional media, T.V., radio, newspapers, etc., it is possible to track some of where your business is coming from but it is almost never completely accurate (not to mention expensive.) This is not the case on the internet. There are systems set up to where you can track visitors down to each and every click. You will know exactly when and where (and from whom) the money is coming from. The internet is MUCH more efficient for ROI than the traditional methods and at least 50% less expensive. When the economy is floundering, struggling, business people start to tighten their belts and start to look at ways to advertise for less. That’s where the internet and internet marketing come in.

2. Exposure and Cost – As an example of this, I will take a snippet from a website that I own to illustrate exposure and cost: About 10 years ago, I opened up a small retail cellular phone and pager business. I had two partners and between us we had to come up with about $30,000 just to open the doors. Operating costs (cash flow, advertising, overhead etc.) ran about $2500.00 per month. We each had a 9-5 job and worked our weekends at the store. We were all working 7 days a week between our jobs and the business. Life? we had none. It took us about 2 years just to break even! 2 of the partners got burned out and wanted out. Needless to say, we had to close down and were lucky to sell the store just before pagers became obsolete. We still took a loss in the end.

Do you know how much it cost me to start my business online? About $100. Do you know how long it took me to break even on my initial investment? About 2 weeks. Even in the beginning, my business was exposed to millions of people. That’s right MILLIONS! That is the power of internet marketing! My pager store cost me thousands monthly just to advertise to the local community! Think about that for a second. Millions of people who you can expose your product or service to. That’s what I call efficiency!

There truly has been NOTHING like this in the history of commerce.

3. Leveling the Risk – Based on the example above, let’s take a closer look at who you can do business with by learning even basic internet marketing applications and taking your offline business to a whole new level. You will learn to drive traffic to your business from all over the world for next to nothing! I have customers in 50+ countries. When one country’s economy isn’t doing so well, another country is doing great, and so I’m less affected. A unique advantage of doing business on the internet. Stay focused on your online or offline business, and remember that you’re in a better position to stay ahead of your competition.

Pay For Marketing, How To Make Your Online Business Click

Once you start online business you need to think about PPC. PPC stands for Pay Per Click – a popular advertising technique on the Internet. Found on websites, advertising networks, and especially on search engines, PPC advertising involves sponsored links that are typically in the form of text ads. These are usually placed close to search results, where an advertiser pays a particular amount to visitors who click on these links or banners and land on the advertiser’s web page. This is one of the best way’s to advertise your internet business.

In essence, PPC advertising is all about bidding for the top or leading position on search engine results and listings. Advertisers do this by buying or bidding on keyword phrases that are relevant to their products or services – the higher the bid, the higher the spot on the search results, the more the people will find the ad (and click on it) to go to their websites (this is why some people call it “keyword auctioning”). Advertisers would then pay the bidding price every time a visitor clicks through the website.

PPC advertising is also known under the following names/variations:

· Pay per placement
· Pay per performance
· Pay per ranking
· Pay per position
· Cost per click (CPC)

PPC advertising is usually done with the following standard procedures:

1. Setting up an account and/or deposit funds.

2. Creating a keyword list.

3. Choosing (and setting up) an account with a PPC search engine.

4. Bidding on the ad placement, including the search result words or phrases.

5. Writing out an ad copy.

6. Setting up the ‘landing pages’ for your ads.

7. Placing the advertisement in the search engine.

There are many benefits to Pay Per Click advertising, making it an effective way of promoting a business ‘online’. Some of them are listed below:

· Get launched immediately. PPC advertisements are implemented very quickly – they can go ‘online’ within an hour after winning the bid and paying for it.

· Obtain specific, pre-qualified, and quality traffic. PPC provides you with a quality or a well-targeted traffic. Visitors are narrowed down into ‘qualified’ people who are actually looking for specific products and/or services that you offer – those who are more likely to become a ‘lead’ (a convert) and complete a transaction (either by buying your product or subscribing to the service that you are offering.

· Widen your reach. PPC advertising provides additional traffic to your site, aside from the natural or “organic” search engines.

· Track your investment. PPC advertising makes use of a tracking system that will determine exactly who comes to the website and what they do once they arrive – the length of their stay on the site and the number of pages (including the actual pages) that they view. These are valuable tools in determining statistics such as return on investment (ROI), acquisition cost-per-visitor, and conversion rates (the percentage of visitors who are converted into customers or leads).

Below are some important things to consider when planning on a pay per click campaign:

1. Know your product. Take an inventory of the product and/or services that you have to offer (before anything else).

2. Stay within the budget. Determine your daily or monthly budget; and stay with it. This means keeping your budget in mind, avoiding bidding wars if possible.

3. Bid just right. Know how to bid right – a bid that is too high can exhaust all of your money, while a bid that is too low can make you lose that spot.

4. Watch the bottom line. Measure your profit margin against your spending or expenses. Know when to stop and terminate your PPC program – if you spend more on advertising but have little or no sales at all.

5. Find the right keywords. Decide which keyword phrases to opt and bid for. Do some keyword research, either by actually looking at existing search terms or with the use of online keyword suggestion tools, to know which terms are mostly used when searching for items that are related to your business. Focus on specific keywords, not on general ones.

6. Write effective ads. A good PPC ad is that which can persuade and move a searcher. There are several approaches to this:

· Discount offers
· Testimonials
· Celebrity/famous endorsers
· Money-back guarantees
· Free trials or sample offers
· Freebies
· Reverse psychology
· Major benefits (”Lose weight”)
· Direct instructions (”Click here”)

7. Maintain a professional-looking site. Your web content should be regularly updated and checked for spelling and grammatical errors. There should be no broken links or images. The website should be simple – designed in such a way that it will be easy for visitors to navigate and load. Include contact details to create a good impression among potential customers.

Done properly, PPC advertising can be an effective marketing tool that will maximize the return on your investment.

Promote Residual Affiliate Programs And Earn More The Wealthy Affiliate Way

If you want to have additional income and is planning to set up an online business but you don’t know how to go about doing it, then affiliate marketing may be the best solution. All you need to have is a website with sufficient contents that are related to the products of a certain online company offering affiliate programs. You don’t even need to worry about the products you have to sell. By becoming a member of the program, or by becoming an affiliate, you can start earning a certain amount of money right away!

In Affiliate marketing, the relationship between merchant and his affiliates is established by having the affiliate to agree to direct some traffic to a merchant’s website. If that traffic is converted into some kind of action, like a visitor purchasing a product on the merchant’s website or a visitor becoming a lead for the company, the affiliate who directed the traffic will be compensated. Compensation may take the form of either a percentage sales commission for the sales generated or a fixed fee predetermined upon the application of the affiliate on the merchant’s affiliate program.

Affiliate marketing has become one of the most popular online marketing methods today Promising a lot of benefits both for the merchants and the affiliates. In fact, almost every merchant or retailer site today offers an affiliate program that any one can join into. Most retailers would entice people to become affiliates or members of their program by promising great benefits like large commissions, lifetime commissions, click through incomes and a lot of other benefits. The question lies in would all these affiliate programs bring off the same benefits

About all affiliate programs would pay you, as an affiliate, a one-time commission for every sale or lead you brought to the merchant’s internet site. Commissions for these sort of affiliate programs are commonly huge, ranging from 15% to a high of about 60%. Other affiliate programs would pay you a fixed fee for every click through or traffic you send to the merchant’s site. Programs like this frequently pay a smaller fee for every click through, usually not getting anymore than half a dollar. The advantageous thing about this kind of program, however, is that the visitor will not have to buy anything in order for the affiliate to get compensated.
A different type of affiliate program is the residual income affiliate program. for every sale directed by the affiliate to the merchant’s site Residual affiliate programs will normally pay only a lowly percentage of sales commission. This commission often comes only in the range of 10% to 20% sales commission. Because of this, many people ignore residual affiliate program and would rather opt for the high paying one-time commission affiliate program. Are these people making a mistake, or are they making the right decision?

There is no direct statistics showing if people are making a mistake by choosing a high paying one-time commission affiliate programBut for sure, we definitely say that they are making a large mistake if they ignore residual affiliate programs. Residual affiliate programs would indeed pay at a lower rate, but merchants offering such kind of programs would generally pay you regular and ongoing commissions for a single affiliate initiated sale! That means, for the same effort you made in promoting a particular affiliate program, you get paid only once in a one-time commission program, and a regular and ongoing commission for a residual program!

Let’s clarify the concept mentioned about residual affiliate program with this examples. say two online merchants both offering web hosting services on their sites And the first merchant offers a one-time commission type of affiliate program that pays $50 for every single affiliate initiated sale while The second merchant also offers an affiliate program, but this time a residual affiliate program that pays only $10 for every single affiliate initiated sale. Obviously, an affiliate, will be attracted at once at what the first merchant is offering, as $50 is definitely a lot larger than $10. But by thinking things over before actually getting into them, one may be able to see that the second merchant is offering us more opportunity to earn a larger amount of money.

You’ll get paid once by the first merchant for the sale you have initiated if you have directed traffic to the merchant and it converted into a sale. However, with the second merchant, you’ll get paid monthly for as long as the customer you have referred to the merchant continues to avail of the web hosting service. In other words, you get paid monthly in residual affiliate programs while you only get paid once in a one-time commission type of affiliate programs. For the same effort of getting one customer to avail of the merchant’s service,

So, are residual affiliate programs worthy promoting for? Unquestionably yes, because you virtually generate more money from these types of affiliate programs in the long run! And would residual affiliate programs work best for you? In all likelihood yes and no. It’s hard to tell. But with the benefits that residual affiliate marketing can provide, it would really be foolish to ignore such program

Video Inviter List Building Viral Video Inviter List Building

As long as you can get hold of telephone and a PC, you can make a video production and spread it on the Net as free, or to buy content. Video podcasting is the simplest and least expensive means to make and distribute a video production on the Web. Anyone with a wideband connection and some simple tools can produce an Net channel today to transmit subject matter to a prospective audience of millions.

The simplest way to catch video content is to shoot it with a digital video camera or camera telephone but if you need to make the sharpest quality, you can use a webcam. So, if your digital still-camera has a recording feature, you can shoot video clippings with it, too. If you have a Mac, you can use iMovie or Final Cut Pro to seize a video right away from your camera. If you have Windows XP or Vista on your laptop, you already have all the standard video catch and editing computer software you’ll want, so you can get your feet wet without spending extra money in computer software. If you decide to invest in software package, Adobe Premiere Pro is the best program to use to upload video to your PC.

The majority of video subject matter on the Web is transmitted virally and downloaded freely, so you may want] to think about the advantages of developing viral videos as well as paid video content. Viral videos can dramatically step-up visitors to your website or blog and popular viral videos featured on the YouTube homepage can get millions of new visitors in just a few days to the web site that the video links to. Viral video is one of the most hard-hitting and powerful tools that you can utilize to step-up traffic to your site. If you’ve designed your internet site to attain a good conversion rate of visitors to gross revenue, then you should always consider the creation of viral video subject matter as one of your key marketing strategies. Individuals come to your web site because they liked one of your viral videos – when they visit your internet site, they find out about paid video downloads, eBooks, and other wares and services you offer.

When you have completed your video, you can send it to YouTube and Google Video for free but don’t forget to include your internet site or web log URL at the start of the text description of your video. If viewers like it, their comments will attain a high ranking for your video. When your ranking increases, you may find it featured on the YouTube home page. Other web sites and blogs will need to link to your video, individual viewers tell their friends about it, and then you have a popular viral video, which spreads over the Web to an audience of millions which can bring a dramatic increase in your traffic and sales.

Generate your community of users first, have a chat to advertisers second. When you have more traffic coming to your site, be certain that you know your demographics. When you know how many people are visiting your web site and something about them you’re ready to show the figures to advertisers.

Search Engine Rankings – Really Full Of Value

Why do you want an improved search engine placement? The answer should be to get targeted traffic and make money. It is not hard to improve such a ranking, provided that you comprehend how the rankings work. The majority of all website traffic does come from search engines, and the majority of that traffic, at least sixty percent, comes from Google.

You’ll need to have a good understanding of how search engine placement works though finding and presenting the relevant information to potential customers if you want to be successful. The most common way is through what is called a crawler or a spider, but a robot is also used sometimes.

Search engines utilize the spiders to index the websites. The spider indexes your sight by searching your pages after you submit your site. The spiders function by reading the content of your site, meta tags, and links on your pages. Your data will be indexed in a certain spot, and that is where the spider will bring them to. Any pages you link to will be indexed, as well. Some spiders only index a limited number of pages, so that could be a problem if you have site with hundreds of pages.

Since the spider does check back, any changes to your site should be eventually indexed as well. Frequency of those returns is determined by the moderators of the search engines. A spider is much like a book that houses the table of contents, content, and references to other sites. Some spiders are able to index up to one million pages a day – such examples are Excite, Lycos, AltaVista and Google.

In coming up with search engine placement, search engines look for information that is the closest to what the searcher is typing within their internal index. If a searcher types that keyword in, then your page should be listed on the first page of the results. However, you will get different rankings for different search engines as they all use different search algorithms to search their indexes.

Another tip is to take note of your frequency and location of your keywords on your web page. Most people keep their keyword density around three to seven percent else it will be considered as keyword stuffing or spamdexing.

Also in their indexing, the search engines look at how links form and what the pages subject matter is about. If page links are related, then you will have improved search engine rankings. If you want to get a better search engine placement, you need to know exactly how the search engine placement works, and then use that as a tool to help your website get better placement.
